NARTDI Participates in the Public Consultation of DA-AO NO 14
DA-AO No. 14 aims to promote the development of apiculture in coordination with NARTDI and other beekeepers and stakeholders; support the development of Apiculture Road Map and integrate its annual work and financial plan under the National Livestock Program; and formulates appropriate official controls and quarantine measures based on OIE standards and other International setting bodies.
For the full implementation of the Guidelines on the Importation of Honeybee and Bee Products, public consultations are still being held. Attendees are representatives from the Beekeepers Association of the Philippines Inc. (BAPI), University of the Philippines-Los Baňos (UPLB), National Apiculture Research, Training and Development Institute (NARTDI), Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) Quarantine Office, Office of the Undersecretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA), and from the Coconut Farmers Federation (CFF).
To address queries and other related concerns, another round of discussion is scheduled on September 5, 2013. The draft of the guidelines crafted will again be presented on the next public consultation which will be organized by the BAI Quarantine Office.
Through the concerted efforts of DMMMSU-NARTDI staff led by the Institute Executive Director, Dr. Apolonio S. Sito, and with the continuous support of President Benjamin P. Sapitula, it is hoped that the Implementing Guidelines will soon be issued for the advancement of the Bee Industry in the country.
