STRATEGIC APPROACHES TO THE FUTURE: NARTDI RESEARCHERS ATTEND
Twenty five government employed researchers and planning officers, faculty and students attended the two-day workshop on Strategic Approaches to the Future: Exploration in Institutional and Personal Development last February 26-27, 2013 at International House, North-western University, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.
Participants were from North-western University, National Economic and Development Authority Region I (NEDA R-I), Laoag City Agriculture Office and Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-National Apiculture Research Training and Development Institute (DMMMSU-NARTDI). Dr. Jaime I. Dangle, Division Chief, Planning, Research and Development, Engr. Rowel M. Munar and Mr. George T. Bondot, both University Research Associate I were attendees of the said event.
Prof. Marcus Bussey is a lecturer in World History/Sustainable Futures, Research Fellow in Regional Futures with the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Sustainability Research Centre and affiliated at the Australian Association for Research in Education while Prof. Shermon Cruz is a Political Science instructor at North-western University and Northern Christian College of the Philippines and President of Timpuyog People’s Movement Inc.
They were the presenters during the above-named workshop who discussed the Futures Tools; Methods for Personal and Institutional Development which also expounded the following: Futures Mirror, Triple Horizon, Futures Triangle, and Introduction to Casual Layered Analysis; A Model of Open Space Futures; and Engagement to Capacity Building.
According to them, studying the future is important because assumptions about the future have effects in the present and that the need to indigenize futures studies toward the needs and characteristics of the Philippines is an advocacy to be achieved.
